EXHIBITOR RULES AND REGULATIONS (2025 -2026 Rules)

  1. Exhibitors must have a current junior membership in the ADSBS. The ADSBS recognizes a junior member as a member 21 years of age as of January 1 and younger. There is no minimum age requirement. However, unless physically or mentally impaired, each exhibitor must be capable of showing their own lamb.
  2. Junior members must physically show from the head of their lamb to qualify for points at each show. If there are two lambs in the same class, the junior must exhibit one and another junior member must exhibit the second animal. No points are awarded if the second animal is shown by an adult. If in an open show, the bred and owned participant or junior must be in control of the sheep’s head and any individual may assist setting feet.
  3. A junior member can participate by nominating an unlimited number of futurity lambs and earning points on each. However, a junior member may only receive Futurity premiums on a maximum of two ewe lambs. Total points earned on multiple ewes cannot be combined.
  4. Ewe lambs can be shown in any class, including Dorper/ White Dorper, All Other Breeds (AOB), commercial ewe and market lamb classes. The ADSBS is aware that many fairs no longer offer breed classes, this allows more youth to participate in the program.
  5. Each ewe must bear the proper identification corresponding to the registration certificate. The official identifying tag for each lamb is the lamb’s scrapie tag or flock tag.

PREMIUMS

The ADSBS Lamb Futurity is a national competition. There will be 100% payback (the amount paid in through nominations will be paid out as premiums). The Owned Ewe class is split into districts. Winners of the districts will be paid premiums. The Bred & Owned Ewe class will NOT be split into districts. Premiums will be paid accordingly. Premiums will be mailed to the winners by ADSBS following the Annual Membership Meeting.

EARNING POINTS

  1. Points are earned by submitting the electronic form off of the Dorper Website. The superintendent of the appropriate show must sign the form. If a form is unable to be completed, a copy of the show results, published by the show management, is sufficient. All points are to be submitted electronically. If there is a problem with the form, contact the office.
  2. Points earned are not transferable to any person other than the original junior owner. In addition, points are not transferable from one ewe to another.
  3. At each individual show, the ewe may earn points from both the junior and open class divisions. Points may be earned only in breeding or market classes on the individual animal. No points are assigned for showmanship.
  4. Exhibitors are allowed to compete in unlimited local, regional, or national competitions, whether or not the show is ADSBS sponsored.
  5. Futurity points will be awarded according to the FUTURITY POINTS SCALE. The scale is based on a combination of the class placing and the number of participants in each class.

Ewe Lamb Futurity Program

OWNED EWE CLASS

  1. The Junior Owned Ewe Futurity allows juniors to purchase a ewe and compete against other purchased ewes. The ewe must be nominated by the seller and must be nominated and sold through consignment sales, organized public production sales or organized online sales. Private treaty ewes are not allowed to be nominated. Nomination and recording of scrapie tag or flock tag number is required prior to sale opening. Nomination fee is $35.00 per ewe paid to the ADSBS. Breeders can nominate their entire ewe lamb crop for a flat fee of $200 per year. Payment of nomination fee is to be made prior to the sale of the ewe lambs or, for consignment sales, the nomination fee can be deducted from the consignor’s check. For all ewe lambs nominated, the consignor owes for the nomination even if the lamb is not purchased by a junior. Ewe lambs that were not nominated prior to the sale are not eligible for the futurity points or premiums.
  2. The fiscal year of the Owned Ewe Lamb Futurity is from April 1 of the current year to March 31 of the concurrent year.
  3. Owned ewe lambs may not be bred by a family member or employee of the breeder listed on the registration paper. Family members are defined as parents, children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

2025-2026 Regions for Owned Ewes Program

Earning Points

  • The highest 10 shows per ewe will count as the final points total for that futurity year. Exhibitors are allowed to compete with their ewes in unlimited local, regional, or national shows, but only the highest 10 shows will count towards their final points total.
  • Exhibitors can assign double points for any two shows of their choosing and must identify the show as such on the form at time of submission. Only two double points per ewe is allowed.
  • Points will only be awarded to the top 10 placing in a class. Any sheep placing outside the top 10 will receive one point.

  3. The junior member is responsible for nominating their bred and owned lambs by May 1st or prior to first show from which the exhibitor wants to claim points.
